Restoring Kettle Valley’s Historic Trains – A Labor of Love
Bringing a 100-year-old steam locomotive back to life is no small task. The Kettle Valley Railway Society has spent decades restoring Locomotive 3716, one of the last working steam engines from the Kettle Valley Railway.
The Story of Locomotive 3716
Built in 1912, Locomotive 3716 was originally used on the Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR). It later served on the Kettle Valley Railway, hauling freight and passengers through BC’s mountainous terrain.
Restoration Challenges
🔧 Mechanical Repairs: Restoring the boiler, pistons, and drive wheels to working order.
🔧 Wood & Metal Work: Rebuilding the locomotive’s firebox, frame, and cab.
🔧 Authenticity: Using original parts and historical blueprints to maintain accuracy.
A Living Piece of History
🚂 Today, Locomotive 3716 is fully operational, pulling heritage train rides along the Kettle Valley Steam Railway.
🚂 The engine still runs on coal and water, just as it did in the early 1900s.
🚂 The railway crew wears period uniforms, giving visitors a true vintage experience.
